Part 2 of Noel's July update~

~

Q. (Sorin)

I remixed some yakisoba noodles and created soba-meshi*, and when I did my sons gave it bad reviews (cries)

Noel-kun, have you ever had any failures while cooking?

[ T/N: Yakisoba is fried noodles. Soba-meshi is rice fried with yakisoba. ]

~

A.

Ehhh! It sounds so delicious though!

Perhaps they were taken by surprise, if it was their first time having soba-meshi? 🤔

But I think that the fact that you tried making it definitely would not be seen as a failure to your family!

For me, I did face several failures in my cooking! I don’t want to think of them as failures because that would be disrespectful to the good, but back then I was too naive… (:3」z)_

When I was in university, I had a failure when I tried to mix protein into my meals so I could get them both out of the way in one shot.

There was once I added two packets of seaweed ochazuke* stock to two measures of rice, and added in the prescribed amount of melon-flavoured protein supplement. Compared to that, literally everything else on this planet would taste amazing.

[ T/N: Ochazuke is soup or tea poured over rice. ]

I will never do that againnnnnn 🍈

Q. (Sakuranbo)

Thank you for posting blog entries daily despite your busy schedule. I have been reading Noemaru from its very first entry. Things that Noel-kun wants to say are written in it, so your wonderful thoughts are conveyed across. Reading Noemaru is a daily routine for me, so I feel more relaxed when I read it. Reading Noemaru and watching Travis Japan are little pockets of rest for me! Noel-kun, is there somewhere you’d regard as a place of rest?

~

A.

No, no! That’s my line - thank you for coming to meet me every day!

If I was able to make this a place of rest for you then I’m glad ☺️

Somewhere I regard as a place of rest is, right here.

Noemaru, where I will definitely come to meet Noe-tans once a day, is a place of rest, you know.

My heart is at ease (here)... (*´꒳`*)

Q. (Shiro)

What’s something you’d get excited about if it was included in your lunchbox?

~

A.

A soft, soft piece of frozen kara-age fried chicken! 🐓

Q. (Nyan Nyan Dai-maou)

List 10 things you love about cats!

~

A.

1. The fact that they are cars.

2. That meow of theirs.

3. Their fluffiness.

4. The way they sleep with their face pressed into their paws*.

5. The way their tail moves, it’s illegal.

6. The silly face they make when they stick their tongue out.

7. The way they immediately go to groom themselves immediately after being petted.

8. The shameless way they only come to you when they want you to play with them.

9. The way they bask in the sun, as though they’ve got chloroplasts and are trying to undergo photosynthesis.

10. The fact that they’re just plain cute, and the fact that they sometimes can look kinda unglam, and they’ve got no semblance of management over their sleep timing, and their sense of distance (from others) is kind of silly, and when they fail at landing after jumping from a high place they’ll go like \ b a m /, and how they can be just playing around and then suddenly it’s like a switch flicks inside of them and they start doing one thing obsessively, and their soft, squishy paw pads that get a little harder when they become adults, and their whiskers.

[ T/N: The term he uses is “gomen-ne” (lit. apologetic sleep), a pun on “gomen” (sorry). It refers to this pose by cats where they sleep with their face pressed into their paws, because it looks like they’re apologising and bowing. ]

Q. (Mayu)

If you have any recommendations for recipe adaptations for takoyaki, please let me know!

~

A.

How about if you stuck some of those 5-yen chocolates inside? 🤔

If it turns out delicious let me know~! If you don’t tell me, then… well, I’ll presume the worst, then.

~

Q. (Ichigo Miruku)

Noel-kun, are you someone (who travels with) lots of luggage, or minimal luggage?

~

A.

Minimal luggage.

I’ve backpacked, and travelled around by bicycle before, you know.

~

Q. (Wakana)

I love the words that you put together, Noel-kun!

It’s almost like you’re speaking right in front of my very eyes.

Thank you always, for your wonderful words!!!

Would it be alright if I continue to enjoy Noel-kun’s words from now on, too~?

~

A.

That makes me happy!

I try my best to match (the words) to the way I speak, and to make sure the words don’t get ahead of me I’ll read them aloud to myself after I’m done writing, you know~! I’ll continue to write them so that you can hear my voice through them, okay~!

You ca~~~~~~n! 👋

~

Q. (Haru)

Dear Noe-san

I recharge my energy by reading Noemaru!

What helps you recharge your energy, Noe-san?

Sending you power from Japannnnnn~!

~

Power~~~~! 💪

I think work is what recharges my energy levels; it’s been that way since long ago!

Through my work, I can receive power from each and every person who supports me!

Aside from activities where I stand in front of an audience, there’s many things I do such as rehearsals, choreography, music arrangement, schedule management, going for discussions, and studying. These things don’t count as my private life; rather, they’re things I do for the sake of work, and more than anything else, for the sake of each and every person who’s supporting me. I believe in that, which is why I’m able to do my best!

It’s the best, isn’t it, to be able to recharge your energy levels while working!

But you know, there’s many difficult things in this world, like the law of entropy and the Boltzmann constant, and perpetual motion is something that’s impossible in the world as we know it today, so of course your energy would run out somewhere, wouldn’t it.

[ T/N: The law of entropy states that in a closed system, entropy (disorder) in the system always increases, such that the overall energy levels will be lower than what the system started out with. The Boltzmann constant is used in calculating entropy of a system. The idea of perpetual motion is that it is impossible for an object to keep moving under its own power for eternity once it is set into motion, due to the law of entropy; as it moves, it will continue to lose energy (e.g. through friction) so it would stop moving eventually. ]

That’s why so~metimes, in order to supplement my energy levels, I do take some time off for myself 👍

But most of my energy I receive through my work, so I think I’m really fortunate☺️

If the power from Japan doesn’t reach me, that means that I’ve already used it all up!

It’s reaching me! It’s coming in waves!

-Hold me tight, this Charging will never stop-

Q. (Tiigure)

What was the thing you laughed at the most this week!

~

A.

When I competed with a squirrel 🐿 to see if we could look at each other without getting caught!! (Here’s some photos)

~

Q. (Peka)

In the past you used to play games quite frequently, but how about how; do you still have time to play games?

~

A.

After lessons end I’ll write my blog entry and have my meal, and then if there’s time at night I’ll play a little!

In June I was 12,000th place in the whole world~! 🦑

I’m the best with Tower Control* mode!

[ T/N: He’s talking about playing Splatoon 2. ]

~

Q. (Renkon)

If there’s anything you’re particular about when choosing a toothbrush, please let me know!

~

A.

It can’t be too stiff!

It can’t be too expensive!

That’s all!

~

Q. (Ria)

It’s been a while, so I’d like to see Noel-kun’s handwritten words

It can be either Japanese or English, so

Please write a one-liner love letter

~

A.

🤍✏️

[photo: in English, it reads “Stay with me”]

~

And with that, I answered a lot of questions, and they were pretty unique this month too, weren’t they~!

I read the other members’ regular updates looking forward to the Q&A corners, and I think that while they’re all different, they’re all great☺️

I’ll be collecting questions until 9pm again today, so do hurry on over~ 💌
