Yonashiro Sho x Kinjo Sukai x Ohira Shosei

Are you the type to eat breakfast?

Yonashiro: When I have the time, I’ll eat it. If I’m eating breakfast, I’ll want to wake up an hour before I need to leave the house, and take it easy. So If I only wake up 30 minutes before, I won’t have the time, so I’ll just prepare my coffee and head out.

Ohira: Sho-kun brews his own coffee in the morning, you know.

Yonashiro: There’s times when I’ll brew it from scratch, too. When I eat breakfast I’ll have some frozen daigaku-imo* from the convenience store naturally defrost, and eat that. Right now I have like 10 of those stockpiled, and I’ve been always eating that since I’ve been hooked on them, and I’ll probably keep eating them until I get hooked onto something else.

[T/N: Daigaku-imo is a dish consisting of deep-fried Japanese sweet potatoes glazed in a caramelised syrup.]

Kinjo: For me, I don’t subscribe to the notion of eating breakfast.

Yonashiro: You might not be a human (laughs). Your first meal is around mid-day?

Kinjo: I’ll eat close to mid-day. I’ll be hungry, but I don’t really subscribe to the notion that I have to eat breakfast.

Ohira: For me, if work doesn’t start early that morning I’ll totally eat breakfast. I’ll wake up to natural light in the mornings, but it’ll still be pretty early so I’ll have time.

Yonashiro: What do you eat for breakfast? Bread?

Ohira: I’m more of a rice guy, I think....

Yonashiro: Hm~, that’s unexpected.

Ohira: I get stuff like health foods delivered, so I’ll eat those.

Are you the type to spend time in your room quietly? Or do you spend it enjoyably?

Kinjo: I’m the type to spend the time quietly. It’s not that I like being on my own, but generally I’m pretty quiet.

Yonashiro: What do you do in your room?

Kinjo: Watch YouTube, stuff like that.

Ohira: On work days, I don’t mind being on my own, but on off days I’m the type who prefers going out somewhere with everyone.

Yonashiro: I get you.

Ohira: At times like that, usually Mame or Junki-kun will invite people out. Recently, the 3 of us went to a hot spring together.

Yonashiro: I was invited too, but I was exhausted so I declined the invitation (laughs).

Does Yonashiro-san’s room become a place for the members to gather?

Yonashiro: When they have time, they do come by. The members who do come by are pretty much the same; the usual visitors are Junki and Ren.

Kinjo: I don’t really drop by.

Ohira: I drop by from time to time. There’s a sign on Sho-kun’s door that says “in use” when he’s studying, and “not in use” when it’s okay to enter, so it’s easy to tell when you can go in.

Please expose your “REAL” selves!

Yonashiro: Shosei has a rack above his stove, and on that he has an instant cooker. So I’ve never seen him using his stove.

Ohira: It’s troublesome to cook using the stove. With the instant cooker, you can just dump your ingredients in, and you can make stuff like curry, or nikujaga*, or pasta.

[T/N: Nikujaga is a home-style dish consisting of meat (usually beef) and potatoes stewed in gravy.]

Yonashiro: The funny thing is that you’ve placed it above the gas stove (laughs). Surely there are other places you could place it.

Ohira: I’m fine where it is (laughs). For Sho-kun, once he’s hooked on something he’s the type to get really into it; recently, he’s been into games, so he watches a lot of gameplay videos.

Yonashiro: I’m studying how to battle in-game.

Kinjo: During breaks and stuff, he’ll have his coffee and game all properly set out, and he’ll be playing the game the whole way through, you know.

Yonashiro: I’ll properly ask our manager what time the next job is, and if I’m told that there’s more than 30 minutes (in between the jobs) I’ll set up and play my game. Sukai saw me doing that and he was like, “You’re serious about this, aren’t you” (laughs).

Kinjo: He’s seriously amazing (laughs).

Ohira: For Sukai, he’s got ornamental plants placed in his room and pictures put up on display; it’s very stylish.

Yonashiro: When we did a video call with everyone, only Sukai had these ornamental plants in frame on his right, and everyone teased him about it (laughs).

Kinjo: There were many people on the call, including staff, but everyone’s background was white, you know. That’s why I thought I should add some green, to let everyone relax a little.

Ohira: I see (laughs).

Please let us know the parts of each other that you think are great (Love) and what you think should be fixed (Hate).

Yonashiro: Shosei’s recently been making it a point to massage the members’ shoulders in the morning as he says “good morning”. And he says it in a low voice too, which I think is great.

Ohira: I thought that Sho-kun’s always been doing that, so recently I started doing it too.

Kinjo: I really like Shosei’s sense of discipline. He asks me a lot about singing and stuff, and it seems that it was helpful. When I consciously listen out for Shosei’s singing and rap in the recording studio, I realise that his growth is really incredible.

Ohira: Thank you. There’s nothing you want me to fix, right?

Yonashiro: I want you to fix the part of you that says “there’s nothing to fix” (laughs).

Kinjo: I do have one thing, Shosei, you’re always grinning to yourself, you know.

Yonashiro: Ah, you’re right!

Kinjo: You’ll look at someone and then grin to yourself, so sometimes I’ll wonder what’s up with that.

Ohira: I love teasing the other members, so maybe it’s because I found something to tease them about (laughs).

Kinjo: Ah, like you internally came to that discovery.

Yonashiro: You say that you love teasing the members, but you do get teased pretty often by the other members, though (laughs).

Ohira: I’ll give as good as I get (laughs). Sho-kun as the leader has, as expected, a high degree of tolerance, and I think that part of him that’s like a kind, reliable older brother is great.

Kinjo: Sho-kun has a unique kind of vibe or rhythm to him, you know.

Yonashiro: An Okinawan kind? (laughs)

Kinjo: It’s like, there’s one guy among us who’s kind of different. Like, I’ve never seen Sho-kun get flustered.

Ohira: Ah, I’ve never seen that.

Kinjo: It’s as though internally he’s like, “this is just the way things are” and accepts it, and that’s really great for the group.... I think it’s great that he walks alongside us at that pace.

Ohira: For things I’d like him to fix, and I’m not joking about this, but there’s really nothing.

Kinjo: I’d like him to fix the fact that his body is huge (laughs). When he stands on the position marker we use in dance, he’ll always end up a little off, probably because his body’s just that huge.

Yonashiro: I always try to stand in the correct place, but somehow it ends up a little off (laughs).

Kinjo: That’s probably because your body’s huge, so I’d like for you to fix that. Well, I say that, but we do go to the gym together (laughs).

Yonashiro: I don’t get you (laughs). I think it’s wonderful the way you’ve been really disciplined about your muscle training lately, Sukai.

Ohira: That’s true!

Yonashiro: During practice, when everyone’s tired and panting for breath, he’ll suddenly start doing push-ups and stuff.

Kinjo: It’s because I want to push myself. I’m training for JAMs’ sake!

Yonashiro: How cool~

Ohira: I think it’s great how disciplined he is about doing voice training when we’re going from venue to venue by car. Something I want him to fix.... as expected, there’s nothing.

Yonashiro: He’s really good at games, so I wish he’d become a little less good at them.

Ohira: Ah, that’s true (laughs).

Kinjo: I’m not that good.... Though I guess among the members I’d be pretty good (relatively speaking).

Yonashiro: When Sukai’s on the opposing team, everyone will give up halfway through, you know. That’s why I’d like for him to get less good at the game (laughs).
